![]() Classic approaches have tried to understand and predict these relationships in terms of consumptive interactions between predator and prey species, but characterizing the interaction this way is insufficient to predict the complexity and context dependency inherent in predator–prey relationships. According to Genndy's commentary, the spider served as a "fridge" for the bats by storing their food in its web.Predator–prey relationships are a central component of community dynamics. However, as they are larger than even the biggest pterosaurs, they either are a fictional species or altered by the world's dark magic. Their appearances resemble real-life prehistoric bats Necromantis, sharing its short, broad muzzle and massive jaw muscles.Inside their den, the remains of numerous species of animals could be seen.Īfter the spider's death, it remains uncertain what happened to the bats following their fight with the dromaeosaurs in the grass fields. The primitive ape-like humans that also lived in the wasteland were shown to be horribly emaciated and sick, as they were constantly preyed upon by the bats. The raptors that were chasing Spear and Fang quickly gave up their pursuit upon sensing the bats nearby. The animals of the wasteland were shown to be terrified of the Man Bats. They would bring the spider food in return for presumably shelter and protection. The bats had a strange symbiotic relationship with the Mega Spider that lived in their den. The Bats were visibly agitated and distressed when they discovered the spider's corpse after Spear had killed it. The Bats would use the spider's webs as food storage, and presumably would share their kills with the arachnid in return. Most notably, the Man Bats shared a symbiotic relationship to the massive arachnid that inhabited their cave. The Bats are seen to be able to communicate with each other, as two vocalized and worked together to carry Fang back to their cave when the dinosaur was playing dead. For larger prey, the Man Bats form massive flocks in order to swarm and overwhelm the prey. Man Bat hearing is strong enough to hear their leader being killed.Īs individuals, the Man Bats do not exhibit much personality, as their main goals appear to be hunting and capturing prey.Īlone, they are capable hunters, able to catch most smaller prey without issue. Hearing: Their hearing and echolocation more than compensates for their lack of refined smell. They are fast enough to catch up to Fang when she was miles away from their location. Speed: In flight, the Man Bats move at the blink of an eye and lunge at high speeds. This strength is at least enough to carry a caveman, as they can swipe away Spear for a short distance. Strength: Their legs can channel enough force to lift heavy weight by working as a pair to lift up Fang.Their fur was crimson with a thick mane running down their spine, large green eyes with seemingly no pupils, dagger-like teeth, large ears, talon-like feet, and massive membranous wings that could be folded and used as forelimbs while walking or standing. True to their name, the Man Bats were huge bats, almost the size of a dinosaur with an almost humanoid physique.
